Located around Martin Saint, the ramparts left the imagination of a genius in architecture (Vauban about 1681-1683). It is not the only site where it exerted its talents to protect its country from the invaders of the time who gleamed to acquire our beautiful provinces and our Aunis.
The ditches are today drained and seen closely, without going down
there, by the visitors who attend the cycle tracks. All the grounds which
border them are the state-owned property. The ramparts are the subject of
a regular maintenance to keep this inheritance.

The grounds are occupied by inhabitants who always collaborated
in the life of Rhétais: "ASSES". Those do not have their breeches
as on the postcards (breeches which protected them from the flies and others).
Each year, are born from small. The admirors should not give them bread or
other: they are herbivorous.
Ramparts around the prison
Formerly, a drawbridge made it possible to reach the village by
the
various doors. The broad and deep ditches protègeaient the village
well. Their maintains is also done by the asses, the ox, the cows, the horses
which eat the grass fraiche.
